Dr. Stephanie P. Jones is an Associate Professor of Education at Grinnell College, where her impactful work explores racialized trauma and curriculum violence in school curriculums. With an academic career spanning from her arrival in 2016, Dr. Jones has made significant contributions that resonate far beyond the classroom.

Dr. Jones is an accomplished scholar with a multitude of accolades. She is a member of the inaugural cohort of ACM Mellon Faculty Fellows, and a recipient of the STAR fellowship from the Literacy Research Association and the SREB fellowship for Doctoral Scholars of Color. She also served as Grinnell College’s Center for the Humanities Fellow for the academic year 2021-2022.

After teaching for six years with Atlanta Public Schools, Dr. Jones transitioned to graduate studies at the University of Georgia. There, she focused on the literacy practices of Black American women and their adolescent reading choices. In addition to her academic duties as a teacher educator and researcher, Dr. Jones consults with school districts and other educational organizations on building anti-racist curricula and pedagogies.

Recognized as a thought leader in her field, Dr. Jones’ work can be found in Signal, Learning for Justice magazine, English Journal, Literacy Research: Teaching, Methods, and Practice, and English Teaching Practice and Critique.

Currently, Dr. Jones is writing a forthcoming manuscript that explores the intersections of surveillance, curriculum violence, and racialized trauma. Her research speaks to the urgent need for meaningful dialogue and transformation within educational contexts.
